Mid-Century Modern Dreamscape

Mid-Century Modern Dreamscape

This sweet family had an incredible mid-century modern home in Raleigh Hills, but only one of their three bathrooms was functional. With their first baby on the way, they wanted to reimagine all three spaces to be fully functional, beautiful, and true to the home’s original mid-century character. Plus we converted a guest room into their nursery for their newest family member! Our goal was to honor the architecture and spirit of the house while bringing in fresh, livable updates that would serve their growing family for years to come.

Primary Bathroom

Midcentury Modern Interior Design Primary Bathroom

This primary bath originally had a pink theme that we chose to honor in the redesign! The shower was once cramped in the back corner and had outdated electrical, making it unsafe to use. We expanded the shower footprint and added a glass surround to open up the space and bring in more light.

Pink Tile on shower walls in walk in shower

For this walk-in shower, we wanted to create something that felt both elevated and serene. We integrated the drain for minimal visual disruption, allowing the gorgeous floor tile to flow continuously from the main bathroom into the shower. This small detail helps the space feel larger and more cohesive. The textured blush wainscoting brings such warmth and personality to the space! The soft tone adds a subtle pop of color without feeling overwhelming, giving the bathroom a bit of charm and softness against the cooler marble and white tones.

Marble and unique tile choices How to make your shower interesting and unique

To tie everything together, we added a marble schluter detail that acts as a beautiful bridge between the pink wainscoting and the white zellige tile above. The zellige tiles each have their own slightly different finish and texture, which gives the walls movement and a handcrafted feel. Together, the combination of materials, textures, and tones creates a space that feels elegant without losing its sense of fun and individuality!

Primary bathroom design in small space

To enhance the sense of height and airiness, we carried the mirror wall to wall and all the way up to the ceiling. The vanity offers plenty of counter space for getting ready and features the same warm walnut tones carried throughout the home, creating a beautiful sense of cohesion. This space feels inviting, functional, and distinctly mid-century, honoring its charming original character while feeling fresh and timeless.

Interior design for modern day living

Before Photo: This primary bathroom featured an iconic color scheme rooted in classic mid-century modern style; however, the space was completely nonfunctional. The shower’s electrical work was not up to code, rendering it unusable, and the angled layout prevented the room from fully maximizing its footprint. With the shower drywalled in on all sides, the enclosure felt especially dark and cramped, further limiting the functionality and comfort of the space.

Home remodel design interior design

Before Photo: The vanity featured an oversized sink that unfortunately left very little usable counter space. Storage was also limited, and the mirror was mounted too low, making it difficult for the tall homeowner to comfortably see himself.

Powder Bathroom

Laundry powder bathroom interior design trends

This powder bath was originally cramped, outdated, and neglected. The clients wanted a true pop of fun and funk, so we transformed it with a floral-inspired wallpaper that wraps up onto the ceiling and painted the remaining walls a soft pink to tie it all together. We installed a lilac Marmoleum floor that extends into the laundry room for durability and easy cleaning. The result is a one-of-a-kind, functional space that makes a bold mid-century modern statement that’s playful, practical, and full of personality.

Unique hardware and finished for your bathroom

We sourced the knobs during some of our travels, and we love how they help to make this design truly one of a kind!

home renovation for old homes

Before Photo: At first glance, this bathroom appeared to offer plenty of storage, but the layout told a different story. Because of the door placement and the tight spacing between the door and the cabinetry, the cabinets were difficult to open and awkward to access while moving in and out of the room. While the location could have been ideal for a guest water closet, the cramped configuration, dated appearance, and non-functional toilet ultimately made the space unusable.

full home renovation in pnw

Before Photo: This bathroom didn’t function at all. The toilet was non-operational, and the layout made extremely inefficient use of the space. Positioned directly behind the door, the toilet was hit every time the door fully opened, creating an awkward and impractical circulation path that made moving around the bathroom frustrating and dysfunctional.

Guest Bathroom

Walnut guest bathroom designs mid century modern design

This guest bathroom will be the bathroom used by their children and overnight guests. Storage was a top priority, so we incorporated a clever over-mirror cabinet to maximize space without sacrificing style. To bring in true mid-century modern character, we paired rich walnut cabinetry with a rounded mirror and minimal hardware pulls for a clean, timeless aesthetic.

Unique tile flooring that hides dirt and grime

We chose this floor tile because its tone and texture are perfect for disguising the inevitable splashes, footprints, and daily wear that come with kids and frequent use.

Textured shower wall tile for guest bathroom

The shower tile is one of our favorite details in this bathroom! Its subtle beveled texture adds beautiful dimension and visual interest to the space. We chose to keep the tub for ease of use with young children, pairing it with both a hand shower and a rain shower to add flexibility and functionality for a growing family.

Mid century modern home updates.

Before Photo: This bathroom featured an outdated color palette with mustard and red tile. While the mid-century modern style was iconic in its time, the space no longer met the needs of a growing family. The sink area felt crowded and inefficient, the tiled countertops with heavy grout lines easily trapped grime and messes, and the cabinetry offered limited, cramped storage that didn’t support everyday use.

Old photos of renovations in a home.

Before Photo: The acrylic tub in this bathroom was no longer a functional option. It felt outdated and, more importantly, posed a significant slipping hazard, making it an impractical and unsafe choice for a family-friendly space.

Nursery

nursery design mood board and inspo for kids room

We created a darling nursery for their new baby, a cozy and neutral space inspired by the serenity of the woods. The subtle woodland theme adds a touch of whimsy without feeling overly themed, making it a space the baby can grow into.

Cute nursery design for gender neutral bedroom

Our favorite detail is the silvery stars scattered through the wallpaper, which catch the light just enough to bring a gentle, magical glow to the room, especially in the evening hours! Hope you enjoyed looking through this glorious Mid-Century modern remodel and that it inspires you to honor the character in your home!

Colorful + Cozy Social Space

Colorful + Cozy Social Space

This was originally a bland white box of space, and we transformed it into a dream colorful and cozy amenity space and model apartment unit! It includes a clubhouse, leasing office, gym, and co-working space that give residents so much flexibility in how they live and gather. The large living areas can be rented out for bigger events with friends and family, while the co-working space offers an easy way to get out of the apartment and settle into a productive workday. We also styled a apartment unit to help residents envision themselves living in the space. Hope you enjoy looking through these spaces and let us know what’s your favorite detail!

Floral backsplash with waterfall countertop edge

This stunning kitchen sets such a colorful and fun tone for the whole space. The large-format floral backsplash instantly becomes a moment on its own, while the black waterfall-edge countertop adds just the right amount of elegance to balance it out. And those bouclé rust colored barstools? They bring the perfect hit of texture and warmth, pulling everything together into a truly layered, interesting design.

unique pendant lighting with gold and black finishes

The gold and black pendant lighting over the island carries that glamorous look throughout the room, elevating the entire space far beyond what you’d expect from a typical apartment clubhouse.

bright blue chairs and large dining table

Residents can rent out this large table for big family or friends gatherings, which is especially helpful if you’re living in a smaller unit that can’t comfortably host this many people. We love how the bold blue chairs contrast beautifully with all the warm rust tones throughout the space!

Bright blue couch and orange curtains in clubhouse

Adding a wood-paneled wall brought much-needed warmth to an oversized space that originally felt sterile and empty with all the stark white. We layered in soft sienna and rust color to give the room a sense of fullness and balance, making it feel inviting instead of echoey or sparse.

Light wood color on accent wall interior design trends

This console is such a showstopper. The bold metal legs and marble top balance beautifully with the warmth of the slat wood wall behind it. To top it off, the artwork brings in those bright, forest-inspired PNW tones, giving the whole vignette a fresh, grounded feel.

Large blue couch with swivel chairs and unique rug

The bold blue sectional instantly anchors this room and sets the tone for the whole palette. Pairing it with deep persimmon accents pillows brings in a soft, layered feel that plays nicely against all the different textures and materials used around the room.

Bright gold lighting and with white ceiling

This gold chandelier brings such a playful energy with all the bulbs hanging at varying heights. It also ties the mid-century modern lamps we placed throughout the space, adding a softer, layered glow to the overall lighting.

work and study area with clubhouse

We created this work-and-study space as a comfortable in-between zone for residents who work from home but still want some separation from their apartment. It’s a highly sought-after amenity in apartment living, and we love how beautifully this space came together.

bright blue clubhouse design with unique wood accessories

We mixed velvet and leather chairs in this room to create a unique look. The sightlines in this space are gorgeous! We love the slatted wood wall, the bright white ceiling, the bold floral backsplash, and the black metal railings that subtly separate the work zone from the play zone.

large artwork in clubhouse area

Using artwork that reflects other elements in the room is one of the easiest ways to keep a design feeling cohesive and fun. We loved how this piece transformed what once was a blank wall into an eye-catching moment.

Leasing office with unique blue wall and complimenting chairs

The leasing office sets the tone as soon as you step inside. The seating ties this more private space back to the main clubhouse, while the large artwork and beautifully wallpapered accent wall adds depth and personality. It feels warm, inviting, and gives potential residents a wonderful first impression.

Unique blue wallpaper with large artwork

The navy blue and gold organic wallpaper we chose for an accent wall in this space bursts with personality, and we paired it with a warm, natural wood console that’s not only stylish but also the perfect little spot to stash all the storage needs in this leasing office.

wood ceiling with lighting integrated in the ceiling

The gym is both beautiful and functional, making it an inviting place to get a great workout in. We wanted to create the feeling of being outdoors, so we added integrated lighting into the wood slat ceiling for a natural, organic glow, painted the walls a rich blue, and designed the space with large windows on two sides to bring in tons of natural light.

blue sofa in living room with colorful design

For many of the multifamily projects we do, there is a model unit for the leasing team to walk people through and envision living in these apartments. This helps them see how they can design the spaces to reflect themselves. What I love about model home units is that we can go a little more bold with color and more playful. The goal is for it to stand out in the minds of potential tenants. No one remembers neutrals, so it' is all about that color!

Velvet blue couches. Unique decor and design.

This cobalt blue sofa is sure to make a statement in any space. The luster in the velvet sofa reflects the light and brings depth into this room. We then layered in touches of turquoise, pallet softeners like beige and black, and metallic fun with gold. Being bold with color is an easy way to stand out in the crowd.

Bright brussed gold chairs for barstools

Color can be sophisticated. Color can be subtle. Color can act as a neutral. Bear with me now. I am a firm believer that blue and green are a neutral. Why you may ask? Well, the grass is green and the sky is blue and every other color is found in nature. So, in Kevin’s logic, blue and green are the backdrop to life, aka, a neutral.

Unique wallpaper in king bedroom

This bedroom makes me smile. The wallpaper reminds me of the cascade mountain range. It is the perfect backdrop to the neutrals of the linen upholstered bed and rattan front night stands. To connect the rest of the room to the wallpaper we layered in some watery blue pillows and lively green plants. It’s all about keeping that connection with nature.

Tall upholstered headboard with mid-century modern lamps

In the secondary bedroom we wanted to trick the eye by creating depth with a darker blue navy wall behind the tall and dramatic headboard. The buckle detail on the headboard pillows give a touch of fashion. Simple walnut wood night stands ground the design while turquoise and yellow pillows help connect the design to the living room styling.

The Playful House

The Playful House

This project was all about celebrating color and personality with thoughtful design! We remodeled the bathroom, kitchen, and living room to be filled with color and texture. Each of these spaces carry their own moment of boldness. Everything flows together through intentional materials and a shared sense of warmth. We’ve also added some before and after photos, so you can really see the transformation. Let us know in the comments which of the rooms is your favorite!

Gold vanity lighting with gold mirror in powder bathroom

This powder bath leans unapologetically into bold pattern and saturated color, creating a jewel-box moment within the home. A richly layered, botanical-inspired wallpaper wraps the space in movement, grounding the room with deep greens, mustards, and slate blues. We saved a little money by sourcing a pre-made vanity in a moody forest green. It truly introduces depth and contrast.

animal print with unique color and textures in powder bathroom

In the bathroom, a vibrant patterned wallpaper becomes the star of the show! We loved this wallpaper for its whimsical playfulness and the unique animals hidden within the design, little surprises you only catch when you’re up close. It is unexpected fun moments like this that brings us so much joy!

Floral and animal print wallpaper for powder bathroom

We played with balancing patterns in this design. The wallpaper is a larger scale patter mixed with a small patter for the floor tile. This pattern play is absolute perfections. A clean, timeless countertop balances the pattern play that we see on the walls and floor. This space feels both wildly expressive and thoughtfully composed. It is a high-impact, small-footprint designed to make an unforgettable impression.

Interior designer bathroom renovation project

Before photo: What started as a bland, builder-grade bathroom with zero personality is now a space filled with color, charm, and so much character!

gold hardware on vanity drawers with color drenched vanity

We used brushed gold hardware to bring warmth and sophistication while also beautifully complimenting the geometric statement mirror and modern faucet.

white linen closet intigrated into wall

Because the room is fully enveloped in bold, expressive wallpaper, we designed the linen storage closet to feel clean and modern, using crisp white tones and polished gold hardware. The streamlined profile adds balance to the space while offering a highly functional storage solution.

Nationally recognized interior designer

Before Photo: These open shelves offered no privacy or aesthetic appeal for the homeowner’s bathroom storage. Toilet paper, towels, and other toiletries were left fully exposed instead of being neatly tucked away.

blue grout with rounded white tile and gold hardware

The fun continues into shower! We introduced a rounded, scalloped scale-like white tile accented with bold blue grout. This creates a playful layer of texture and connects with the blue tones in the rest of the home. The unexpected grout color brings out the movement in the tile and adds a touch of whimsy, giving the shower its own moment of personality. It’s a perfect continuation of the energy you feel the moment you step into the bathroom.

Blue cabinets in small kitchen with light oak cabinets

The kitchen continues the story with rich blue lower cabinets, soft wood uppers, and a subtle green backsplash that adds a depth of color without overwhelming the space. Smart storage, warm brass lighting, and a clean layout make it both functional and inviting.

Light oak cabinets with blue lower cabinetry in kitchen design

In order to maximize the storage solutions in this room, we had to have an off centered cooktop. This allowed us to take full advantage of the bling corner to the the left of the stove. It was a sacrifice we had to make. One solution to making it feel more open we did a few floating shelves to have display space and those go-to grabs for the homeowner when cooking.

This backsplash has such a rich variety of colors and textures that it instantly feels unique and beautiful. In small kitchens like this, it can be challenging to introduce character without overwhelming the space, but these tiles strike the perfect balance. Their subtle movement and tonal variation add depth and personality while still keeping the overall look cohesive.

How to upgrade your kitchen design

Before Photo: This kitchen was outdated in style and lacked the functional flow needed for everyday living. The layout didn’t make full use of the space available, leaving areas underutilized and disjointed. What could have been a highly efficient and welcoming hub of the home instead felt cramped, tired, and in need of a thoughtful reimagination.

funky backspalsh tile our best kitchen design recommendations

We mixed metals in this space by pairing a stainless steel sink with a matte black faucet and gold pendant lighting and hardware. While mixing finishes can sometimes feel overwhelming, thoughtful curation makes all the difference. By working with a designer, you can ensure that each metal relates to the others in tone, proportion, and placement, which creates a layered, cohesive look!

pass through to kitchen from dining nook

The arched entryway into the kitchen instantly warms the space, creating a soft, inviting transition as you walk in. The rounded dining table, paired with plush velvet chairs, echoes that curvature and adds a cozy, intentional intimacy to the dining area. It was the perfect way to preserve the character of the home and honor those arches!

top dining nooks for your midcentury modern home

This home features blues and green throughout and for the dining space, we wanted to highlight the green. It’s a great way to give it personality to call it’s own. By layering both green and blue throughout the space in both the dining nook and kitchen, living room, and bathroom in varying textures and tones, we’ve created a subtle visual thread that ties back to the bathroom. It’s a quiet nod that keeps the home feeling connected, cohesive, and thoughtfully designed!

re-imaging interior design trends for single flow

Before Photo: This dining nook was dark, outdated, and visually unbalanced. The large window, which should have been the focal point of the room, was completely overshadowed by the heavy, dark furniture in the space. Instead of feeling open and inviting, the area felt weighed down and disconnected from its natural light and potential charm.

gold chandelier in dinning nook with light filled windows

A large picture window frames the backyard and floods the space with natural daylight, turning even casual meals into calm, sun-lit moments. The round marble-top table adds an elegant, organic sensibility, while its compact footprint keeps the zone feeling open and approachable. The minimal brass chandelier above elongates the vertical line of the space and provides a clean, modern focal point without overwhelming the room.

blue floor to ceiling fireplace with unique textures

This living room blends midcentury influences with a fresh color palette to create a space that feels both comfortable and confidently styled. The star of the room is the fireplace, clad in richly saturated blue tiles arranged in a combination of a stack and herringbone patterns. The tonal variation in the tile adds dimension and hand-crafted character, making the fireplace a focal point.

large coffee table in living room with cloud couch

A plush sectional anchors the seating area, layered with tactile pillows and a throw blanket that bring in pops of deep green, navy, red and soft neutrals. Warm woods as seen in the coffee table add natural texture and quiet luxury.

unique pillows on couch adding pop of color to your home

The green and blue pillows on the sofa each introduce their own patterns, textures, and tones, yet they work together seamlessly to continue the color story woven throughout the home. Their mix creates a layered, collected look that feels both intentional and effortless!

mid century modern design elements unique tiles, sconces, and furniture

Mid-century modern sconce lighting provides a subtle moments of shine without competing with the room’s color story. Together, these rooms create a home that feels energized, curated, and beautifully cohesive!

A space-themed kids' bedroom is not only visually appealing but also sparks imagination and curiosity. In this blog post, we'll guide you through creating a stellar space-inspired haven for your child.

  • Celestial Colors: Start by choosing a color palette that reflects the vastness of outer space. Deep blues, purples, and blacks can create a cosmic backdrop. Add pops of silver or gold for a touch of starlight. Consider using glow-in-the-dark paint for an extra magical touch that will transport your child to a galaxy far, far away when the lights go out.

  • Wall Murals: Set the stage for an intergalactic journey with a captivating wall mural. Options abound, from realistic depictions of planets and galaxies to whimsical cartoon-style space scenes. You could even opt for a mural that includes your child's name among the stars, making them feel like a space explorer with a personalized touch.

  • Celestial Accessories: Enhance the space theme with celestial accessories. Hang glow-in-the-dark stars from the ceiling, place planet-shaped pillows on the bed, and use astronaut and rocket-themed decor. Use a chalkboard or magnetic board to create a space for drawing planets or writing messages.
